Production version in SAP is a master data which is defined
for a material. (MM02-->MRP 4 View) Production versions can be created in MRP4 view of the material
master. Multiple production versions can be defined for one material.
Production version is a basically a combination of routing
data and BOM. When a single material is having multiple routings and
alternative BOMs, production version is important to make a combination of
desired routing and desired alternative BOM which is to be used for the
production.
Apart from the routing and BOM data, validity period issue
storage location and receiving storage location can be included in a production
version.
Advantage of having a production version is someone can
choose the production version rather than selecting routings and BOM
alternatives manually. Production version is the only option (most probablyJ ) to select an
alternative BOM in production order creation.
